Commemorative speech
We are gathered here today to not only mourn the lives that have been lost during this tragic event but to grieve on the fact that this was an act of terror.
The thousands of loved ones who stand here with the faint memory of their loved ones saying their last real goodbye stand here fighting for their loss. Though it was goodbye it was not goodbye forever. As we meet with our loved ones again someday we can rejoice and tell them how proud one must be. I as well as everyone here know that September, 11th 2001 was a day that forever has changed Americans. The attacks on the morning of September 11th provided the United States of America with an ugly, painful reminder of the evil and outraged, hatefulness and resentment which resides in the hearts of others.
The attacks on that September day put the world at a standstill. The attacks blindly stole the values, the freedom, and the democracy from the palms of children, from the palms of now widowed mothers, from the palms of every human being in this country.
The attacks from the evil predator have put Americans at a safer more alert haven but have not put them at safety. As we build the nation's national security we build our nation's strength. We will not live in fear we will attack it. We will not adhere to scornfulness we will overcome it.
One month after 9/11 the rubble of the World Trade Center’s south tower still smoldered, and today eleven years after the attacks the memory still blisters even as new visions rise from the ashes that rest upon ground zero. Though the memory blisters we are here in celebration, to celebrate the lives of true heroes. We are here to honor those lost and overcome those cruel human beings who caused this devastation.
Since the images of smoke billowing, fire engines and sirens, we have learned the common goal of the evil predator. A goal to be successful in building a radical Islamic empire. A goal in which these extremist wish to punish their own wives, women of virtue and purity, and make them prisoners in their own homes, a goal in which they wish to slay men for missing a prayer meeting, and they not only wish to rob the innocence of many but they wish to desecrate America and other civilized nations as well.
America will not tolerate terrorism that is why America made an example of the master minded criminals. America made this example to show that we will not under any circumstance back down to these twisted individuals.
So today, as we think back on the events of 9/11, our sorrow over the loss of so many good people should be overlooked by the example shown not of those who died, but those who lived through the catastrophic event. They taught us through their actions that day what it means to be human. They showed us the undeniable value of duty, loyalty, self-sacrifice, and love. The only way we will triumph
over terrorism, and conquer the senseless tragedy of that horrible day, is by celebrating the kindness of the human spirit. As we remember those lost, I ask you to join me in assurance that the good will not only endure, but will prevail.
