Taking Life By Hills
My adrenalin starts to pump as I run fiercely. As I gasp for air, I can feel my legs wanting to give out, but they just keep going. The hills, which tower above wait for me to begin the journey forward, throwing challenges at me I never, thought I would face. The spontaneous thought hadn’t crossed my mind before; I was suddenly intrigued to know what this opportunity could bring.
It was the year before high school, the beginning of modified sports. It was the moment a random man approached me with a question that changed who I am today. My first day at practice made me feel like I was running through a dessert; it was over exerting to my out of shape body, but I pushed through it. I often told myself that I could do anything I wanted as long as I never gave up, but that seemed nearly impossible. Running presented me with a new way of thinking; it gave me an open mind. It made me want to succeed, and always push myself. Running helped me in all aspects, especially in school, allowing me to focus on what matters most for myself.
I soon realized that in life there will be many mountains to climb, but when you get to the top you can say you overcame a challenge to get there. Running was a task that wasn’t exactly easy at first, but I worked hard to make it so I could run longer, farther, and faster. When I began running cross country I never thought I could finish a decent race, but by the end of the season I had worked my way up to being a number five runner, the last runner to score for my team. When my coaches gave me the news I was thrilled, I knew in my heart from that day on that it wasn’t a fantasy to accomplish a task, it was a possibility. I soon found that there were many possibilities, one which stuck out most to me, the possibility to be myself. Being myself is something that I have just done naturally. Although many make me out to be different from whom I really am. Countless people wouldn’t guess that I love to help others; I would do almost anything just to help someone out. Life is a mountain and when we are faced with challenges we sometimes need help to conquer them, allowing us to move higher up that mountain.
As a child I have always believed that hard work can make your dreams come true. While grow older, I have keep working toward my dreams and never giving up. When you first begin school you start at the bottom and eventually reach the top, just as if you were climbing a mountain. Moving through school is no breeze, there is an array of challenges you must face before completing. By working hard and never giving up, just as my family has taught me, I have made it through the challenges. If you constantly put forth a solid effort, you will always climb the ladder; never giving up is what allows you to keep your place on it.
